I had gained 20 lbs over 2 years after having 2 kids. I also have every symptom of pcos, weight gain, oily skin, acne, periods few and far between, facial hair, etc. i am also hypothyroid. i was aiming to get weight loss surgery but the insurance would only cover it if i had been dieting and exercising for 6 months (documented) with minimal success and have a bmi of 40 or higher.

I told my doc that there has to be smthg I can do to lose weight. I was already on metformin. she recommended the south beach diet. i read the book and it seemed doable. and i wanted to give it a shot honestly to see if i could get the surgery.

anyways, i started the diet and started doing 3 days of spinning and 2 days of weights. In 6 months, I lost 30 lbs. That is 10 more than what i had gained. I still have some to go and south beach is not working as well as it did before. but i also am not exercising as i did before. i am trying weight watchers now, but i do not think its strict enough for pcos patients. and i am hungry often.

but give south beach a try. even if u stop losing after 30, that is still 30 less. Good luck.

PSOC makes losing weight very difficult. I was 329 lbs at one point. I currently weigh 165 lbs. I followed Weight Watches with the idea of keeping white carbs to limit (No rice, potatoes, bread, sugar). I do eat whole wheat or whole grains of those items. Getting weighed in weekly & teaching me better choices was a way to make me accountable. I have 5 lbs to lose to reach my goal weight. I work hard…harder than most, but it is a desire of mine. I also know I can doit & I’m worth it. You can do it too. You have to make a choice.

One tip that helps me: I still crave those white carbs, but if I eat something with protein they typically go away. Sometimes I need a couple of servings before it does, but I’ve been able to lose weight with this mind set.

Did anyone have to see an endocrinologist to help with the hormones? I don’t feel like my PCOS is being addressed and I want to be healthy for my daughter after we worked so hard to have her.
