Finding a PCOS doctor can be downright confusing. Because there are multiple medical specialists who are capable of treating the syndrome, how do you know if you should see your regular ob/gyn or an endocrinologist?
It depends. Are you comfortable with being on the birth control pill and have few other concerns? Is getting pregnant not a concern for you at the present moment? In most simple situations, your primary ob/gyn doctor is able to manage your PCOS. They will likely prescribe the birth control pill to help you regulate your menstrual cycles. She can also help you monitor for other complications and even recommend you to see a specialist should the need arrive.
If however, you do not trust the diagnosis, are not comfortable with taking the birth control pill or have multiple concerns relating to having PCOS, you may want to consider seeing an endocrinologist. An endocrinologist is a doctor who has been specially trained in diagnosing and treating all kinds of hormonal disorders, and so would likely be the most able to help you.
Finally, if you are trying to get pregnant and it has been several months without success, you should see a reproductive endocrinologist, or infertility specialist. They will be able to treat you using more advanced and rigorous medication protocols.
