Definition: Bioidentical hormones are synthetic hormones that are biochemically and molecularly the same as our natural hormones. Bioidenticals are usually made from plant materials and act in the same way in our body as our own hormones. Many forms of these hormones are in pill or patch form and have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use. Studies have shown that they are effective in relieving menopausal symptoms, but studies are still lacking about the differences in the various estrogen fomularies.
