Flutamide (Eulexin)

How Flutamide Works:
Flutamide decreases a cell’s or tissue’s ability to bind androgens. This may decrease the symptoms of PCOS, specifically the excess hair growth associated with PCOS, though it has not been approved by the FDA for this use. Due to the risk of toxicity, this drug is not commonly used in the United States.
Availability:
125mg capsules
Dosage:
125mg or 250mg three times a day
Side Effects:
  • drowsiness
  • depression
  • confusion
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • hot flashes
  • loss of libido
  • rash
  • swelling
Drug/Herbal Interactions:
Warfarin
Monitoring:
May need occasional blood tests to assess liver function.
Other Instructions:
Do not breastfeed or become pregnant while taking this drug. Report any unusual side effects to your physician promptly.
