In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, countries around the world are celebrating in many different ways. This year, the theme is supporting breastfeeding during emergency situations. Breastfeeding is key in protecting children during many different health crises. Even in the absence of an emergency, breastfeeding is the single most effective step a mother can take in conferring immunity and protection to her baby.
Women with PCOS often wonder if breastfeeding may be more difficult due to having PCO. The short answer is most likely not. There has been some anecdotal evidence that a woman's milk supply may be affected by the hormonal irregularities of PCOS, however it is uncertain if this is truly a result of PCOS, or some other unknown factor. More studies are needed before a true relationship can be determined.
