Pharmacists Refuse to Fill Birth Control Pill Prescriptions

Some pharmacists have been fighting to end the requirement that they fill medication which goes against their moral beliefs, even when a prescription is present. This typically applies to birth control pills or the morning after pill. Of course, this is highly controversial as some women are having difficulty gaining access to medication that their physician has deemed necessary. As a woman with PCOS, you may be taking the birth control pill in order to regulate your menstrual cycle and prevent future complications. Women pursuing fertility treatment may need to take the pill as part of their treatment regimen. While some states have passed laws requiring a pharmacy to fill any prescription that a customer brings in, there are states where a pharmacist is not legally required to do so. What do you think? Vote or discuss in your PCOS forums!

Hopefully there is someone around who can fill the prescription without compromising their beliefs. However, if a pharmacy is unable to guarantee that there is someone there who can fill all prescriptions, they should be required to put a sign outside the pharmacy to that effect, and a location to fill the prescription. Something like, “Rape Victims, Please go to XYZ Pharmacy to Fill Prescriptions”.
