Gene Regulating Ovulation Found

By , About.com GuideJuly 23, 2008

Follow me on:

Researchers at the University of Montreal have found a gene in mice which both regulates and prevents ovulation. The gene, called Lrh1, has been found to be essential in the process of ovulation. In fact, researchers found that if they blocked the gene in the ovary, ovulation stopped altogether. While much more research is needed, the implications are incredible. More effective forms of contraception may be possible, as well as new treatments for infertile couples.
