A recent study has confirmed what doctors have known for a while. Heavy women who are trying to conceive, where there are no other factors that may affect the couple’s fertility, have increased difficulty in trying to get pregnant. In order for a couple to be included in this study, the male partner must have a normal semen analysis, and the woman must be ovulating with at least one normal working fallopian tube.
It was found that a woman who's BMI was above 30, had a significantly lower chance of conceiving naturally, then a woman who's BMI was in the normal to overweight range. For a woman whose BMI is even higher, above 35 or 40, the chances of spontaneous conception are even lower. If you are thinking about getting pregnant, the best thing you can do to increase your ability to conceive, and maintain a healthy pregnancy is to make sure your weight is in the normal range .
